“…you remember that they lived…”

May 5, 2012 1 Comment

I think this may end up being something I do often as a way to remember and honor my first son, Calvin Phoenix, who is 38 months in heaven today. I created the following card as a reminder to others that mentioning the loved ones we’ve lost is a source of comfort for the bereaved. It has a photo of stones, shell fragments, and an-almost-complete sand dollar that I collected while at Ocean Beach in San Francisco with my husband. I also added the following quote by Elizabeth Edwards:

“If you know someone who has lost a child or lost anybody who’s important to them, and you’re afraid to mention them because you think you might make them sad by reminding them that they died, they didn’t forget they died. You’re not reminding them. What you’re reminding them of is that you remember that they lived, and that’s a great, great gift.”

...you remember that they lived, and that's a great, great gift.

Click on the image to be brought to Flickr where you can choose to download the card in various sizes.

Thank you so much for sharing this! I had never heard this EE quote. I wish I could have sent this out to friends and family after my son died. 🙂
